Parton was previously nominated for Best Original Song for "9 to 5" in 1981, and the singer-actor also earned nominations for New Star of the Year in a Motion Picture and Best Motion Picture Actress—Musical/Comedy for her starring role in the film of the same name. Parton was nominated for Best Actress In A Motion Picture—Comedy/Musical for her role The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas in 1983, and scored her most recent prior nomination in 2006, when her song “Travelin’ Thru” from Transamerica was nominated for Best Original Song.
Dumplin' is a Netflix original film that centers around Willowdean Dickson, a plus-size teen in a small Texas town who enters a local beauty pageant as a form of protest, which inspires her friends to join in. Parton duets with pop star Sia for an inspirational song titled "Here I Am," and the other guest vocalists include Miranda Lambert, Mavis Staples, Elle King, Alison Krauss, Rhonda Vincent, Macdonald and Aniston.
Parton co-wrote the new songs with Grammy nominee Linda Perry, with whom she also co-produced the soundtrack.
