Dolly Parton Inspires at Pure & Simple Tour Stop in Jersey [Pictures]
Dolly Parton is full of wisdom, pure and simple. The charismatic singer brought her Pure and Simple Tour to New Jersey's PNC Bank Arts Center, and during her entertaining set left the crowd with a few nuggets of wisdom.
Parton's Jersey show was so lengthy, she stopped for a brief intermission. She introduced the songs to her fans, telling stories along the way. She got particularly feisty when mentioning a crowd favorite, "Jolene."
"I'm glad you remember Jolene. I've been trying to forget her for about 50 years," Parton slyly explains. "It's about a girl who was trying to steal my husband when we first met. I put a stop to that, obviously.”
Parton didn't just showcase her incredible, ageless vocals but her other musical talents, playing multiple instruments including the guitar, a banjo, a stunning piano and more. She joked about her family being a bunch of horny hillbillies since she's one of 12, but she also got real with her fans for a minute with one of her Dolly-isms.
"You should be whatever you are and be proud of that. If we were all the same, what a boring life that would be.”
After singing "9 to 5" and "I Will Always Love You," Parton took a minute to plug her Pigeon Forge, Tenn. amusement park, Dollywood.
"If you haven't been there yet, you have to come. I really need the money. No, really. It costs a lot of money to look this cheap."
