Dolly Parton Weighs In on Jennifer Aniston’s ‘9 to 5′ Reboot
Dolly Parton is voicing her opinion on Jennifer Aniston's new reboot of the 1980 film 9 to 5. The country singer is not opposed to a reimagining for the movie and is actually hoping to be a part of it in some way. Speaking at the 2024 CMA Fest, Parton revealed she's known about Aniston's idea for years.
The "Jolene" singer recounted a story from several years ago when she visited the actress at her home. Aniston had invited her over for lunch and to meet her dog, whom she named Dolly Parton.
"She did talk about wanting to do that then with younger newer people," she explains. "And that possibly Jane [Fonda], Lily [Tomlin] and I — they might look us up and now that we're older and whatever positions we're holding, the characters that we played — and that we might get to be in it there."
"And I'm certainly hoping they'll use my song," she adds before leading the audience in a sing-a-long of the chorus.
How Does the Cast of 9 to 5 Feel About a Reboot?
Parton's co-stars recently shared their thoughts on a reboot of the iconic film and Aniston's hand in producing the film.
“We hope she has great success,” Tomlin tells Variety at the premiere of the documentary Still Working 9 to 5. “It’s a hard nut to crack because the issues are somewhat different.”
“There’s still the undercurrent of the same kind of negativity towards females … [they’re] not easy-to-solve issues," she continues. "So we’re very eager to see what they do.”
Fonda adds, “I hope she does it."
