Lionel Richie seems to be making more appearances on country awards shows that some big country acts because of his upcoming country duets album. After Jason Aldean accepted his CMT Artist of the Year award from Richie, he launched into his single 'Tattoos on This Town,' which hit No. 2 on Billboard's Country Songs chart.

With a simple stage setup and a female background singer, Aldean brought an energetic version of the single, albeit slightly pitchy at times. In his signature cowboy hat, he and his band brought a performance that was just as dependable as Aldean is as an artist. Country fans don't generally watch Aldean to see how he'll screw up -- he just delivers steady performances.

Aldean has taken some chances this year with his music, stretching genres by adding rap on his 'Dirt Road Anthem' and collaborating with Kelly Clarkson for 'Don't You Wanna Stay.' It seems that experimentation paid off as Aldean was awarded as one of CMT's Artists of the Year.
