No. 51: Jeannie C. Riley, ‘Harper Valley PTA’ – Top 100 Country Songs

This song sold over six million singles for Jeannie C. Riley and was later turned into a movie. Few other songs on the Top 100 Country Songs list was turned into a movie. That's only the tip of the iceberg, however. One could argue 'Harper Valley PTA' is the most successful country song ever for a female artist, having topped pop and country charts and became a big hit internationally. Of course, Shania Twain and Dolly Parton would enter that conversation.

Riley won multiple awards for this smash, which was written by the great Tom T. Hall. It's possible the singer could have launched a bigger career, but she soon became a born-again Christian and started to distance herself from the hit and country music to sing gospel.
