Kellie Pickler Sings Beautiful Ballad About the Grandmother Who Raised Her
Fans taking in the shows at CMA Fest 2017 got a raw moment from Kellie Pickler. Taking the stage at Nashville's Ascend Amphitheater with husband Kyle Jacobs by her side on piano, the singer debuted a breathtaking ballad called "If It Wasn't for a Woman" about her late grandmother, Faye, who raised her.
“Sometimes when I miss her / I can still hear her sweet words / ‘I love you, be safe’ / I wouldn’t be here today / If it wasn’t for a woman / Leading me by the hand, helping me understand," Pickler sings on the song, which she wrote with her husband and Brian Bunn.
It was apparently Faye's advice that Pickler be patient and wait for a gentleman who would open the door for her — an act that Jacobs does for her. "Met a man that treats me good / Opens my door like a gentleman should / She always said, 'Don't settle for less, no girl deserves second best,'" she continues.
Pickler hasn’t divulged whether a new country album is on the way, but she is keeping plenty busy with other ventures. The singer split with her label, Black River Entertainment, last year, but her CMT series, I Love Kellie Pickler, remains strong. The show returns for a fourth season on Aug. 3. Pickler and Faith Hill are also working on a daytime talk show, which is set to premiere sometime this fall.
