Kelly Clarkson Has ‘Country Jamz’ on the Way, Written by a Top Songwriter
A Kelly Clarkson country album is a real thing, we just haven't heard it yet.
The pop-country crossover star made her debut on The Voice this week, and just about everyone tuned in to see how she would do as a coach, including hit country songwriter Shane McAnally. He even tweeted to her after, letting her know that Blake Shelton better watch his back this season.
But that's not all that came from the conversation. A Clarkson fan responded to McAnally's support, publicly demanding what we've all been hoping for: "Shane I hope you are writing #1 songs for Kelly’s next record."
And he has been. Clarkson responded directly, confirming that McAnally has inked some "future country jamz" for her:
All of the Times Kelly Clarkson Dabbled in Country Music
McAnally has written and co-written a list of country hits too long to include here — Miranda Lambert's "Mama's Broken Heart," Sam Hunt's "Body Like a Back Road," Thomas Rhett's "T-Shirt" and Midland's "Drinkin' Problem" are just a few — so a No 1 country song isn't out of reach for Clarkson.
A country album wouldn't be a stretch, either — the original American Idol winner has strong ties to the genre. She has collaborated with country artists in the past, like Jason Aldean on "Don't You Wanna Stay" and her mother-in-law Reba McEntire on a special version of "Because of You." She and Blake Shelton also have a very special relationship — well, feud now that they're competing against each other on The Voice.
Clarkson released a country song called "Tie It Up" in 2013, written by McAnally.
