Kelly Clarkson has been confirmed as a coach for the upcoming Season 14 of The Voice, demolishing rumors that she would join the panel on American Idol.

"I’m so excited to join The Voice at NBC," Clarkson says in a press release Thursday (May 11). "We’ve gone back and forth about a role as a coach for years, but the timing hasn’t been right until now. I have always loved appearing on the show as an advisor or performer and established an amazing relationship with the network during my Christmas special. I can’t wait to turn my chair and see the faces of up-and-coming artists and provide them with the help and support they’ve needed to break into the industry. Watch out Shelton, I’m comin’ to win!!"

Rumors had been swirling that Clarkson would join Idol in a judging capacity when it returns to television in 2018 on ABC. Clarkson won the first-ever American Idol, and TMZ reported that the superstar was in "serious talks" to return to the show that launched her career.

Thursday's announcement puts those rumors to rest.

"Kelly has been a part of The Voice family for many years as an advisor and performer. We are thrilled she has chosen to join us as a coach to mentor the next generation through our unique vocal boot camp. Every time Kelly Clarkson sings you are reminded what an incredible voice really is," Paul Telegdy, president, alternative and reality group, NBC Entertainment, adds. "We are looking forward to the sound of Kelly Clarkson on The Voice."

Season 14 will take place the season after next, and Blake Shelton and Adam Levine have been confirmed to return to their judge's chairs. A fourth judge for Season 14 of The Voice is yet to be announced.
