Lauren Alaina Blends Own Hits With Katy Perry’s ‘Firework’ for New Year’s Eve Set [Watch]
Lauren Alaina braved the freezing cold in New York on New Year's Eve to perform a medley of her hits — and one from one of the world's biggest pop stars — in Times Square.
Bundled up in a hat, gloves and warm jacket, Alaina kicked off the medley with a stellar rendition of "Road Less Traveled," followed by an attitude-filled performance of "What Ifs," the chart-topping duet she sings with Kane Brown, before she closed out her set with a beautiful cover of Katy Perry's "Firework." In spite of the frigid temperatures, Alaina's voice sounded strong and sharp as always, showing off her wide range and impressive pipes, making each song her own.
The performance closed out a celebratory 2017 for the young star, who earned her first No. 1 hit with "Road Less Traveled," as the album of the same name debuted inside the Top 5 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart. She and Brown also scored another No. 1 when "What Ifs" topped both the Billboard Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts in 2017 and was certified gold, signifying sales of more than half a million. Alaina is going into 2018 receiving another significant honor of being named part of Country Radio Seminar's New Faces class of 2018 alongside Luke Combs, Michael Ray, Carly Pearce and Midland.
Alaina also scored her first CMA Award nomination in 2017 for New Artist of the Year, with the honor going to Jon Pardi. She is also set to hit the road with Cole Swindell on his 2018 Reason to Drink Tour as an opening act along with Chris Janson.
