Lindsay Ell Undergoing Surgery to Remove ‘Pre-Cancerous Cells’
Lindsay Ell turned to social media to share some startling news with her fans on Thursday morning (Feb. 28). The 29-year-old singer-songwriter and guitarist is undergoing surgery to remove some abnormal cell growth that doctors found.
"I don’t have cancer, but the doctor found pre-cancerous cells growing in my body that need to be removed," Ell explains in an Instagram post.
The news comes at a time when Ell has been on a major career upswing. The 2018 Taste of Country RISER stole the show at the 2019 CRS New Faces of Country Music show when she performed alongside Russell Dickerson, Jimmie Allen, Lanco and Dylan Scott on Feb. 15. Just days later, she got the news that she was nominated for her first-ever ACM Award for New Female Artist of the Year, facing off against Carly Pearce, Ashley McBryde and Danielle Bradbery.
Country Stars Who've Been Touched by Cancer
Ell released an acclaimed full-length album, The Project, in 2017, and most recently joined Brantley Gilbert on a new duet titled "What Happens in a Small Town."
Ell urged her fans to get regular check-ups, expressing gratitude that her condition was caught so early.
"Sometimes we think we’re fine. Sometimes we think we eat healthy and workout, and that means we should be fine. But never underestimate the power of a check up at the doctor," she writes. "You never know, and if you catch something early enough, it could save your life. Going in for surgery today, gonna get this stuff out of my body."
