Little Big Town delivered a stirring rendition of "The Daughters" on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday (June 26).

The four-member band brought a sobering effect to late night TV, standing alongside each other all dressed in matching black and white tuxedo and black bow ties. Though the music was gentle, with only a soft piano, stand up bass and acoustic guitars to accompany them, their words are powerful, singing directly to the rules society places on women, whether being told to "watch your mouth and watch your weight" or the expectation to clean up the messes of those around them.

Karen Fairchild and Miranda Lambert Are Kinda BFFs Now

The group stood poised as they delivered this important message, Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman trading serene harmonies before bandmates Jimi Westbrook and Phillip Sweet join in on the chorus. "And pose like a trophy on a shelf / Dream for everyone, but not yourself / I've heard of God the Son and God the Father / I'm still looking for a God for the daughters," they sing in poignant unison.

Co-written by Fairchild, Ashley Ray and Sean McConnell, "The Daughters" is the first look at the band's upcoming album. Fairchild says audiences have an emotive reaction to the song, similar to the effect of "Girl Crush."

"It just seems like it feels really needed right now," she tells Taste of Country. "Just encouraging champions for the girls out there." "This is our ninth studio album and we have some things we want to talk about and also we like to have a good time too," adds Sweet. "It's all of the above, but we always like to go a little deeper with our lyrics."

No word on when the album will drop, but Fairchild hints that more new music is coming in the near future.
