Luke Bryan, ‘Strip It Down’ [Listen]
Luke Bryan hardly needed to pad his sexy resume, but “Strip It Down” is first-page material. The hot new love song from Kill the Lights is personal, romantic and spicier than a ghost pepper.
The seductive love song leans up against “too hot for radio” without spilling over. Bryan isn’t a crooner a la Chris Young, so this style takes a moment to work. But just a moment.
“Let it fade to black / Let me run my fingers down your back / Lets whisper, let’s don’t talk / Baby, leave my t-shirt in the hall,” he sings to begin the second single from Kill the Lights.
“Like a needle finds a groove / Baby, we’ll remember what to do / To drown out every distraction / It’s time we made it happen.”
Bryan’s pleading chorus injects a lover’s urgency into the song. He’s recorded love songs before, but never has one felt as sincere. It’s as if the candles are lit, the sheets are pulled back and soft music is playing, but Bryan can’t come to bed until he finishes this:
“Strip it down, strip it down / Back to you and me like it used to be / When it was an old back road with an old school beat / Cowboy boots by your little bare feet.”
“Kick the Dust Up” was a new take on a well-tested sound for Bryan. More of the same from this new album would have signaled a career on a plateau. “Strip It Down” ensures this two-time Entertainer of the Year’s career remains on the rise.
Why Fans Will Love It: “Strip It Down” is as sexy a song as Luke Bryan has ever released. Fans get to see a new side to the singer.
Key Lyrics: “Let it out, tell me right now / Everything I need in those white cotton sheets / Dirty dance me slow in the summertime heat / Feel my belt turn loose from these old blue jeans / We both know that we lost it somehow / Let’s get it found / Strip it down, down, down.”
Did You Know?: Early reviews of Kill the Lights say the album has more depth than his last album, Crash My Party from 2013. It’s more comparable to Tailgates & Tanlines.
