Morgan Wallen’s Mom Claps Back at the City of Nashville Over Bar Sign Ruling

Morgan Wallen's mother clapped back at Nashville Metro Council members who voted against allowing a sign to hang above his bar on Lower Broadway.

Lesli Wallen's retort seems more targeted at council members who took to social media to flex explain after the 30-3 defeat.

• City Council voted down the sign on Tuesday (May 21), with at-large Council member Delishia Porterfield saying, "I don't want to see a billboard up with the name of a person who's throwing chairs off of balconies and who is saying racial slurs."
• Porterfield is referring to an April incident at Eric Church's bar that brought felony charges against Wallen, and a January 2021 incident outside of Wallen's old home in the area.
• Member Jordan Huffman is alleged to have said Wallen "doesn't belong in this city," and that set off all kinds of responses, including a subtle nod from the singer.

Country music news outlet Country Chord is who caught Lesli Wallen's attention with their post about Huffman.

"Way to go Morgan," she said. "The city of Nashville says 'Thank you for all of your help bringing in millions of revenue."

She's presumably referring to revenue generated by his concerts in Nashville, including three May shows at Nissan Stadium.

Huffman's comments on Instagram are turned off. It's not clear if Nashville's city council will reconsider or if there's any sort of appeal coming. The resounding defeat is unusual for a group that has allowed some spicy signs, like Kid Rock's Big Ass Honkytonk on Broadway. That sign features a curvy butt, and it was approved anyway.

Wallen's fans have expressed disapproval of the group's actions, and others wondered if it was an overreach.

Felony charges against Wallen are still pending. His next court date is on Aug. 15, and if convicted, he could get jail time.

He faces three Class E felony charges of reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and one count for disorderly conduct, a Class C misdemeanor.
