‘Nashville’ Star Maisy Stella Goes Solo for ‘Spirit Riding Free’ Theme Song [Watch]
Maisy Stella — one half of sister duo Lennon and Maisy, who play Maddie and Daphne on Nashville — has put her vocals on the theme song for the Netflix show Spirit Riding Free.
The adorable video finds the young singer hanging out with her friends on a beautiful horse farm in between shots of her recording in the studio and clips from the animated show. Although singing alone for the first time, Stella's voice effortlessly shines as she sings the sweet tune in the video that also features her best friend Mackenzie Ziegler of Dance Moms fame.
"I was so excited; I said yes immediately. I was super excited because it was so fun to do," Stella tells Entertainment Tonight about taking on the song and video solo. "It was so fun to get to work with DreamWorks [Animation Television]. It's such a cute song and the video is awesome."
While she adds that it was "weird" not singing and shooting with her usual partner in crime, Lennon, Stella says she's open to doing a solo project again, but will always sing with her sister. The 13-year-old is gearing up for the 2017 summer premiere of Season 5 of Nashville, which sees her and the rest of the cast dealing with the heartbreaking loss of Stella's TV mom, Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton).
"This season has definitely been a crazy one. There has been so many crazy things happening and the storylines are just so good and I'm excited everyone to see it," Stella says. "There's definitely a scene with [Daphne's] friend that I'm very excited to air, because it's something I never got to play in all the years I was on the show."
New episodes of Nashville kick off Thursday (June 1) at 9PM ET on CMT.
