Parmalee are finally putting out a new record this summer, and their new single “Sunday Morning” is one the guys say just came together perfectly in the writing room.

Written by lead singer Matt Thomas with Josh Osborne and Ross Koppelman, Thomas says writing the single — like the iconic Commodores song by a similar name — actually was easy.

“The melodies just flowed and the title came out of something I was mumbling,” he told Taste of Country at the 2017 ACM Awards. “It was just one of those days where things just happen and at the end of the day you’re like, ‘Wow.' It just popped out like that. It was crazy.”

The tune even has a similar vibe to “Easy (Like Sunday Morning),” Thomas says, though not the same pace. The band also gave Taste of Country the low-down on their new record, due out in July. The guys add that they just narrowed down the final track list from the 35 songs they’d recorded to choose from.

“We’re pumped up about it,” says Thomas. “Our fans have been waiting patiently, and we’ve been wanting to put out some stuff, so we’re excited.”

Parmalee say they're particularly amped for fans to hear a song called "Hot Damn-a-lama" (a word they admit they made up).

"It's a really cool song; it's fun to play at shows. It's really rockin'," Thomas says.

“Sunday Morning” officially dropped April 17 and is available now on iTunes.
