It might not be surprising to learn that Maren Morris initially expected a girl when she first learned of her pregnancy with her husband, country artist Ryan Hurd, earlier this fall. After all, Morris' latest album arrived with the feminine title, Girl, and the singer grew up around women. But now Morris is reveling in life's irony after learning the pair will have a boy instead.

Mirroring her recent social media posts regarding the twist of fate, Morris admitted as much in an interview surrounding her performance last Wednesday (Nov. 6) during Detroit's stripped-down and acoustic Stars and Strings 2019 concert.

"I grew up with one sister; my mom owns a hair salon," Morris tells Detroit radio station 99.5 WYCD. "So I was just always surrounded by women, and I have an affinity for them. There's women in my band and my crew. I've never really had a male sibling or anything like that. So I had just felt like I'm going to have a girl because I'm constantly surrounded by women, and I put a record out this year called Girl. And, nope, the test said it was a boy."

Morris and Hurd shared the news of their first child together when they first announced the pregnancy. In her announcement, Morris noted the endearing paradox arising from the situation.

"The irony is just too rich that after a year of living in the 'GIRL' headspace, the universe would give us a baby boy to even things out," Morris shared on Instagram last month. "See you in 2020, little one."

Not that the country star would be disappointed either way.

"Honestly, I was so happy with either," she explains to WYCD. "But I've heard from a lot of boy moms since we released our news, and they're just like, 'They love their mothers forever!'"

Since the announcement, Morris and Hurd have shared two more adorable baby bump photos. In keeping with her album's theme, Morris will take part in an opening performance alongside hosts Carrie Underwood, Reba McEntireDolly Parton and other female artists at the 2019 CMA Awards this Wednesday (Nov. 13).
