Farewell Angelina’s ‘House of the Rising Sun’ Cover Is Haunting
Farewell Angelina showcase everything that is special about the group with a mournful, exceptionally musical performance of "House of the Rising Sun."
Nicole Witt, Lauren Lucas, Lisa Torres and Andrea Young are four of the most talented musicians and singers in Nashville, and it was clear their arrangement of the traditional folk ballad was something special from the moment they started rehearsing the song with just an acoustic guitar and vocals in the makeup room while getting ready for the RISERS shoot in early February.
The full band rendition they performed on the RISERS stage later that day still features the seamless vocal blend that is one of Farewell A's greatest strengths, but it's also rounded out by a fully fleshed-out instrumental arrangement that ebbs and flows.

Each of the women gets a chance to shine in vocal spotlights, but the true strength of the group is in the inimitable vocal blend they possess, sounding more like one person singing with four voices than four individuals trying to blend. The interplay between Witt and Young's twin fiddles is one of the musical highlights, and Young's unexpected run at 2:32 caused eyebrows to raise and mouths to drop open all over the set as they recorded their "House of the Rising Sun" cover, which draws more from the traditional folk origins of the song and less from the Animals' well-known cover.
Farewell Angelina won the fan-voted Hot Seat poll to take part in the inaugural RISERS Class of 2017 along with Brett Young, Jacob Davis, Kalie Shorr, Aubrie Sellers, Runaway June and Brandon Lay. They took part in an exclusive photo session and interview and they also shared a powerful performance of an original song called "If It Ain't With You," a song that could become one of the most-requested wedding songs in country music.
