Scotty McCreery grew up in Garner, N.C., but he's one-quarter Puerto Rican. McCreery's paternal grandfather, Bill McCreery, who died in 2015, was a member of the U.S. Air Force and met his wife Paquita, who is a native of San Juan, in Puerto Rico. According to WRAL-TV, it was a blind date that led to the couple's 57-year marriage; they had three children together.
