Remember When Shania Twain Got a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame?
Shania Twain joined an exclusive celebrity club when she earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on June 2, 2011.
Twain is the best-selling female artist in country music history, having sold more than 75 million albums combined. She's made history more than once; On Nov. 17, 1997, her second album, The Woman in Me, was awarded diamond certification from the RIAA, making Twain the first female country artist to ever sell 10 million copies of a record. Her third album, 1997's Come on Over, sold more than 40 million copies, and it's still the best-selling album by a female artist of all time in any genre.
President and CEO of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Leron Gubler and Bo Derek were on hand at Twain's ceremony to reveal her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In her acceptance speech, the country superstar professed disbelief at how her life and career had turned out.
Shania Is One of Country Music's Most Powerful Women, But Who's No. 1?
"Why is a girl from Timmins, Ontario, standing here, getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame? I really don’t know," Twain reflected. "Where I come from and where I am today, it’s a small miracle, to be honest, that I am standing here. But I am here to accept an incredible honor and to give thanks for my star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It's so surreal."
She was battling dysphonia at the time of her Walk of Fame ceremony, and it was unclear of Twain would ever sing again. But she recovered and returned to the stage in 2012 for a residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas that lasted until 2014.
After a 15-year break between albums, Twain released her most recent album, Now, in September of 2017. That album debuted at No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart.
