It's been over four decades since the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band hit the music scene and started making music, but that doesn't mean their popularity or sales have showed any signs of slowing down in recent years. The band's No. 1 hit song, 'Fishin' in the Dark,' remains one of the top-selling classic country songs of its time and continues to be one of the most popular cover songs performed in clubs across the country.

Now, 14 years after is release, 'Fishin' in the Dark' has been certified Gold by the RIAA for digital sales of over 500,000 copies. The tune locked in the No. 1 position on the country singles chart in both the U.S. and Canada in 1987, changing the band members' lives and careers forever.

"'Fishin' in the Dark' seems to have a life of its own and has certainly become a signature song for us over the years," says Nitty Gritty Dirt Band member Jeff Hanna in a press release. "We love that this song has become a summer anthem and continues to appeal to new audiences year after year."

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band is currently on the road in support of their latest album, 'Speed of Life,' which was released in 2009. For a complete list of dates where the band will be performing, click here.
