‘The Voice': Josie Jones Blasts Out ‘Men and Mascara’
The Voice Season 17 continued with another week of the blind auditions on Monday (Sept. 30)—allowing returning coaches Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson and John Legend, as well as returning alum Gwen Stefani, to take cracks at their initial team builds.
The next big country hopeful strode in this evening a few singers into the show, all 16 years of her, in the form of Josie Jones from Hamilton, Alabama. "I sing country music, and I love it because it's usually about relationships, trucks, fishing, and hunting," she cheerfully explained. "That's pretty much all the things I do. I love going fishing because it's really peaceful...above all else, my favorite thing to do is to jam out with my whole family. It's usually about three guitars, everybody gathered around singing, and a bunch of food. Getting to do what we love together is super fun."
The teenager tried her hand at the definitively beyond-her-age "Men and Mascara," which was a hit for Julie Roberts in 2006. Legend and Shelton turned, with Shelton marveling, "She's a baby," upon seeing her.
Stefani raved that Jones sounded like a "little baby Stevie," referring to classic rock icon Stevie Nicks, adding that "obviously" she was going to pick her boyfriend Shelton.
Legend put up a bit of a fight, protesting that "Everybody thinks I can't coach a country artist, but I can. I am very familiar with many country artists." To that, Shelton retorted, "Because the tradition of country music is important to me also. I pray that you pick a coach who knows more country singers than just the guy sitting to his left."
Unsurprisingly, Jones went with Shelton, but this season has had its surprises already to date, so we'll see how all the teams overall shake ouut.
We'll be following along each week to keep up with the Season 17 competition, so be sure to check in weekly to check the progress of your favorites on the show.
