Trent Reznor Celebrates CMA Nod With Hilarious Brooks & Dunn Photoshop
One of the more interesting names that landed on the list of nominations for the upcoming 2019 CMA Awards was distinctly non-country Nine Inch Nails rocker Trent Reznor, who appeared along with his producing collaborator Atticus Ross. The two are listed as co-writers on Lil Nas X's smash hit "Old Town Road," which samples a 2008 NIN song. The tune's remix with Billy Ray Cyrus is up for Musical Event of the Year, and as an award that recognizes the producers as well as the artist, Reznor just found himself picking up his first CMA nod ever.
Reznor took a humorous approach to the honor, photoshopping his and Ross' faces onto a press shot of duo Brooks & Dunn, and giving viewers perhaps their first glimpse at how he looks in a cowboy hat. "New world, new times," he captioned the shot.
Fans predictably guffawed at the photo, with one cleverly noting, "I think it's finally time to cover Johnny Cash." (Cash famously covered Reznor's single "Hurt" in 2002.) Reznor's wife, fellow musician Mariqueen Maandig, noted simply, "HELP," with a crying emoji.
There's no word on whether Reznor will actually show up at the CMAs, but if he does, he'll be competing against Brooks & Dunn— who are nominated in the same category for " Brand New Man” with Luke Combs.
The 2019 CMA Awards are on ABC at 8PM ET on Nov. 13. Maren Morris is the most-nominated artist of the evening, with eight nods to her name.
