A Thousand Horses recently sat down with Taste of Country Nights to talk about their latest single “Preaching to the Choir.” The band just hit Las Vegas in anticipation of the 52nd annual ACM Awards on Sunday night (April 2), and they also shared their thoughts on who will take home Entertainer of the Year.

Though Brothers Osborne were already announced as winners of the ACM New Vocal Duo or Group of the Year, A Thousand Horses received a surprise nomination, which they were proud of, despite handing the hardware over to John and TJ Osborne.

Award nominations aside, the band is focusing on their latest single, which is a country-rock song for the working man. The band knew they wanted to record “Preaching to the Choir” — written by Heather Morgan, Morgan Wallen, Brad Warren and Brett Warren — after listening to just the first few lines. The vibe rang so closely with A Thousand Horses, it was a no-brainer for the band despite being the first outside song the band has ever cut.

“That’s kind of how we’ve always lived our lives with the band and with our friends and family,” the band says about the song. “That’s why the song kind of speaks to us. It kind of shows that side and what we’re about and our audience and what A Thousand Horses is.”

The band is coming off a hot 2016 with No. 1 single “Smoke” and nearly a year on the road with superstar country acts Thomas Rhett and Jason Aldean. The group thinks Aldean could win his second back-to-back ACM Entertainer of the Year award Sunday, but that might be biased due to watching the A-lister rock out night after night for 11 months.

"That was such a fun tour with Thomas Rhett and Jason,"  the band enthuses. "We were on that thing from January to November, so we all became really good buds. It was just a big family affair, that was the cool thing about it, is having that many people and being able to bring everybody out. It was a lot of fun."

The band also talked to Taste of Country Nights about one of the band members getting engaged in Aspen, swimming pool roulette in Las Vegas and country-rock group the Cadillac Three forming in their old house.

The 2017 ACM Awards are set to air on Sunday night on CBS at 8PM ET.
