The CMA Awards kicked off on Wednesday night (Nov. 14) with a big win for Chris Stapleton for Song of the Year for his hit single "Broken Halos."

“I didn’t expect this one,” Stapleton told the crowd as he came up to accept his award from presenters Lady Antebellum. “So many good songs in this (category.)”

Indeed, Stapleton had much competition in this category, including songs Chris Janson, Dan + Shay, Jason Aldean with Miranda Lambert and Sam Hunt. The specific category win goes to the songwriter, so in this case it went to Stapleton along with an elated Mike Henderson.

What made the moment even more special was the look on Stapleton’s wife Morgane’s face as she watched her hubby start off his CMA Awards night with a win. Fans will recall that the two recently announced that Morgane is pregnant again with their fifth child. This is just months after the couple welcomed twins back in May.

Looks like these two continue to have much to celebrate!

Of course, this could be just the beginning of a huge night for Stapleton, as he leads the way with five nominations. including Entertainer of the Year, Single of the Year and Record of the Year following the release of his album, From A Room: Volume 2.

The show got off to a rocking start when hosts Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood got everyone rolling in laughter with yet another rip-roaring monologue that everyone seemed to love.
