Chris Stapleton’s Six ACM Awards Wins Ties an All-Time Record
Chris Stapleton is truly in select company. With six ACM wins in one night, the "Nobody to Blame" singer ties a record set 25 years ago. Ironically, the man who presented him with the Album of the Year trophy first set the mark.
Garth Brooks won six ACMs in 1991, Faith Hill tied him at the 1999 ACM Awards. Brooks presented Stapleton his ACM for Album of the Year via satellite from Ontario (not Iowa, as the "Traveller" singer joked) on Sunday night (April 3). Stapleton came into the night knowing he'd already won New Male Vocalist of the Year.
Additionally, the 37-year-old won Male Vocalist of the Year, a producer's award for Album of the Year for Traveller and Song of the Year as artist and songwriter for "Nobody to Blame." Dave Cobb co-produced the album with him, and together the men collected awards at the most recent Grammys and CMAs, as well.
Another record set on Sunday was Miranda Lambert's seventh consecutive Female Vocalist of the Year win. Jason Aldean won the night's biggest award, Entertainer of the Year. The show was performance-heavy with more awards (Vocal Duo of the Year, New Artist Awards) being announced prior to the show than ever.
Brooks & Dunn hold the record for most all-time ACM wins with 27. Lambert's streak is approaching their reign of eight straight Vocal Duo of the Year wins (2001-2008). The duo have 16 total wins in that category.
The humble Stapleton accepted each award graciously, thanking his team and especially wife Morgane at every chance.
