Chris Young Reveals New Single Title With Covers Contest
Chris Young is gearing up to release a new single, and he's getting fans amped up with a fun new contest online.
Young turned to social media on Monday (Dec. 10) to reveal that his next single is going to be "Raised on Country." In a video, the singer says the new single is coming "very, very soon, although I'm going to say exactly when yet. Very soon!"
To help promote the single, Young has come up with a contest for his fans to vote on.
"I reference a whole lot of artists that I grew up listening to in the song by name, so I'm going to post this link, you guys can go vote, and every week, whoever gets the highest number of votes, artist-wise, I will go record one of my favorite songs of theirs that I grew up on and really made me raised on country," he says in the video above.
Voting is now open for this week's cover, and Young is giving fans a choice between Alan Jackson, Merle Haggard, George Strait, Joe Diffie and Willie Nelson.
Young teased fans with a snippet of "Raised on Country" that he posted online in November just prior to the CMA Awards.
"I was raised on Merle, raised on Willie / Got my honky-tonk attitude from Joe Diffie / Daddy did too, it's family tradition / When someone cranks it up you can't help but listen / My upbringing sounds like George Strait singing / 'Cause if you know me, I was raised on country," he sings on the heavy, modern country-rock track.
The singer has been strongly hinting that new music could be coming sooner than fans might have thought. When Taste of Country guessed that a new single from an unannounced album might be coming right after "Hangin' On" — which reached No. 1 on the Mediabase charts in November — peaked, he replied with a laugh, "I’m not gonna say you’re wrong."
