Cody Johnson opened Game 7 of the 2019 MLB World Series on a high note (or, a few of them) on Wednesday night (Oct. 30). The country star performed the national anthem before his home team, the Houston Astros, took on the Washington Nationals.

Johnson's rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" was pitch perfect — and it's a tricky song to sing! — with just a touch of twang. The singer even offered up a quick "Go Astros!" as saluted the crowd, cowboy hat in hand, before leaving the field.

Unfortunately for Johnson and the other Astros fans packed into Minute Maid Park on Wednesday night, the Nationals emerged victorious after nine innings, winning the game -- and, therefore, the World Series — 6-2. Its the Nats first World Series victory ever; the team was founded at the start of 2005-2006 MLB season.

It's been a banner year for Johnson, who released his newest studio album, Ain't Nothin' to It, in January. The record is his first project in partnership with Warner Music Nashville. On the strength of that album, Johnson is nominated for New Artist of the Year at the upcoming 2019 CMA Awards, his first-ever CMAs nod.

Johnson has a number of headlining tour dates on his calendar through December. Following a holiday break, he'll hit the road again in early 2020, as an opening act on Miranda Lambert's Wildcard Tour.
