Devin Dawson Wins MusicRow Breakthrough Artist-Writer Award

Devin Dawson's 2018 is proving to be memorable for the singer-songwriter. Following the release of his debut album, Dark Horse, in January, the California native has received countless recognition for his ability as a singer and songwriter. Dawson, who penned all the tracks on his album, was recently given the MusicRow Award for Breakthrough Artist-Writer of the year.

A Taste of Country RISER, Dawson shared his appreciation for the recognition on social media, writing, "So honored by this award! Thank you @MusicRow for making me feel like family on these two historic streets in Nashville. Cheers!"

Dawson got his start in the metal and hard rock music scene, and in a recent interview with Fast Company, the singer credits his mom for his broad musical influences. “She raised me on everything,” he tells the publication. “Country music and rock and soul and R&B, everything.”

While he still regards himself as a dark horse, his numerous accolades this year alone are making Dawson a mainstay within the country genre. In 2018, the singer has received nods from the ACM Awards for New Male Artist, the CMT Music Awards for Breakthrough Video of the Year, and the Radio Disney Music Awards for Best New Country Artist.

“A dark horse is somebody who little is known about, but unexpectedly rises through the ranks,” he says. “That’s exactly how I see my story unfolding at this point—and it’s almost becoming truer as the day goes on.”

Dawson saw early success at country radio with his first single, "All On Me." His follow-up, "Asking For a Friend," is out now. The singer will perform both hits throughout the summer while on the road with Tim McGraw and Faith Hill's Soul2Soul The World Tour.
