The Dixie Chicks were the hottest act in country music when they released 'Fly,' their second major label album. Written by Chick Martie Seidel and Nashville hitmaker Marcus Hummon, 'Cowboy Take Me Away' hit No. 1 in February of 2000, and now lands at No. 81 in our Top 100 Country Love Songs.

The lyric deals with the yearning of a woman to live a life less complicated and driven by simpler concerns, with a good man by her side. "I wanna sleep on the hard ground/In the comfort of your arms/On a pillow of blue bonnets/In a blanket made of stars," Natalie Maines sings. The track exemplified the unique hip factor of the group, which introduced a breath of fresh air to the staid Nashville scene at the time.
