The White House saw Chicks' singer Natalie Maines insult and came back with one of its own. Now both parties are guilty of hitting send on a name-calling message.

What Did Natalie Maines Say?

Maines struck first. On Monday (May 18), she took to Instagram and called President Trump a "f---y s--t (rhymes with "muggly mutt").

"Our democracy is disappearing right before our eyes," she says. "This f---y s--t is using your gas money to pay the insurrectionists. But don't worry about it. I'm sure posting selfies will fix everything.

Maines' Instagram post was just her third one in 2026. Those came after a five year break that began when Joe Biden took office.

Response to Maines' comments was divided. White House officials came across the comments and offered a response on Wednesday.

White House Responds To Natalie Maines

Talking to Fox News, a White House spokesperson said, "Natalie Maines is a despicable nobody who clearly suffers from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome that has rotted her peanut-sized brain."

Older country fans no doubt recall what happened the last time Maines was overtly critical of a president. In 2003, she said that her band was ashamed the president (then George W. Bush) was from Texas. At the time, America was at war with Iraq and those comments were met with sharp rebuke from country music fans.

The Chicks' (then the Dixie Chicks) music was banned on radio stations nationwide and while subsequent albums earned critical praise and even Grammys, they never regained that same mainstream attention.

This is the second time in two months that well-known singer / songwriter drew a response from the White House. Last month, Joni Mitchell criticized President Trump during a show in Canada.

Spokesman Davis Ingle responded with, “Who the hell is Joni Mitchell?”

8 Canceled Country Celebrities + What They Did To Earn It

There are certain things you never say and certainly things you never do in country music. Honestly, most of what got these eight celebrities canceled in country would get you scrubbed in other forms of entertainment as well, but not all of them (see No. 4 and No. 7).

This list is here to report history, not to offer an opinion on if justice was served. Five of the eight stars bounced back, and one even worked his way into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Time heals most wounds, it seems.

Country Music's Current Feuds and Beefs [UPDATED]

The difference between a true country music feud and one country singer being a punk is the response. Each of these active feuds has involved a significant back and forth between two country artists or more.

A few singers are involved in multiple feuds while others involve unexpected or unknown singers. We'll update this list as the pairs make peace or if another fight emerges.
