Florida Georgia Line’s Royal Impersonation at the CMT Awards Still Has Us Laughing
The 2018 CMT Awards got off to a regal start Wednesday (June 6,) as country stars such as Kelsea Ballerini, Darius Rucker and Midland all played a part in a hysterical parody of the festivities surrounding the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle last month.
Yet, it was Florida Georgia Line’s impersonation of Harry and big brother William that still has us laughing.
Riding a horse-drawn carriage led down the streets of Nashville by none other than Trace Adkins, FGL’s Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard were dressed in their regal best, waving to well-wishers lining Broadway.
“Brother, I feel a little bit posh,” Kelley (as Harry) said to Hubbard (William).
“Indeed,” Hubbard responded, showing off an impressive British accent.
The pair went on to talk about Kelley’s spooky resemblance to Prince Harry—which we have to admit we never noticed before, but now cannot unsee.
“Man, I get that all the time,” Kelley said, “but you’re starting to look like Prince William.”
From there, Hubbard took off his hat, only to show off a bald cap. A low blow to poor Wills? Perhaps, but it was undeniably humorous!
The parody was the perfect beginning to a fun-filled show that saw FGL winning the CMT Performance of the Year award for their rendition of “Everybody” with the Backstreet Boys. Carrie Underwood, Blake Shelton, Little Big Town, Carly Pearce, Kane Brown and Lauren Alaina also came home as winners for the evening.
Of course, the CMT Awards are just the beginning of an action-packed week in Nashville, as thousands from all over the world are currently converging on the city for the annual CMA Fest, which will feature a variety of A-list performances including Underwood, Pearce, Brown, Jason Aldean, Dan + Shay, Brothers Osborne and Darius Rucker.
