George Strait Spills That ‘Honky-Tonk Time Machine’ Album Is Coming
George Strait released a new song called "Código" on Friday (Dec. 7) — the same day he played the nineteenth show of his Las Vegas residency. He debuted the live version there, sharing that it's the first hint of a new album, Honky-Tonk Time Machine.
Rolling Stone reports that the country legend actually played several new tracks at his Sin City show on Friday, including "Every Little Honky-Tonk Bar" and "God and Country Music." Strait told his audience the name of his forthcoming project as well as where they could find his new single, "Código," his first new music in three years.
"That's on Spotify right now," he shared.
Strait wrote "Codigo" — an infectious ode to his favorite tequila — with son Bubba Strait and longtime collaborator Dean Dillion. It's the country legend's first country single release since the title track off his album Cold Beer Conversation reached the Top 40 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart in 2015. On the new tune Strait sings about the woman he loves — and the tequila he loves just as much — with lyrics: "the perfect recipe / Baby, you and me / The secret's been found / Let's pour one right now / I'm talkin' 'bout Código / I take it with me everywhere I go / Best tequila, baby, don't you know."
A press release also promises new music in 2019. In addition to another album, Strait will continue his Vegas concert dates with two nights at T-Mobile Arena in February of 2019.
