‘Girl Crush’ Snags Song of the Year at 2015 CMA Awards
Darius Rucker and Miss America 2016 Betty Cantrell took the stage at the 2015 CMA Awards to present Song of the Year, awarded to songwriters.
One of the most creative and touching songs of the year was Little Big Town’s “Girl Grush,” written by Liz Rose, Lori McKenna and Hillary Lindsey, which earned the honor. The songwriters accepted and first thanked Little Big Town for supporting the song from the get-go.
“You guys were behind the song literally from hour one,” Rose said in her speech. “They heard it an hour after we wrote it, and you’ve just been great champions."
Little Big Town sat in the audience beaming and applauding, clearly happy for the songwriters.
The song also won Single of the Year earlier in the evening, and the band performed the it live on the show as well. Little Big Town were also nominated for Vocal Group of the Year and Album of the Year for their most recent record Pain Killer.
