Home Free Add a Capella Twist to Zac Brown Band’s ‘My Old Man’ [Watch]
A capella group Home Free offer a haunting cover of Zac Brown Band's "My Old Man" in a new video.
The cover video features band members Austin Brown, Rob Lundquist, Adam Rupp, Tim Foust and Adam Chance each singing to the camera in between shots of a man working on the farm as he feeds the chicken, lifts bails of hay and spends quality time with his family. The cover also gives the guys a chance to show off their gorgeous harmonies and impressive a capella vocals on the humble lyrics: "My old man / I know one day we'll meet again / As he's looking down / My old man / I hope he's proud of who I am / I'm trying to fill the boot of my old man."
“If you've followed us for any amount of time, you'll know that we love all things Zac Brown,” Lundquist says. “All of our fathers have played huge roles in our lives, so when you couple that into a song as powerful as Zac did, it became a no-brainer for us to take a crack at this song."
Home Free rose to fame after winning the fourth season of NBC's The Sing-Off in 2013, with their winning number being another country cover in the form of Hunter Hayes' "I Want Crazy."
"My Old Man" serves as the first single off Zac Brown Band's 2017 album, Welcome Home, which drops Friday (May 12). ZBB simultaneously kick off their 2017 tour of the same name in their native Georgia. That will keep them on the road through the fall, criss-crossing the U.S. and Canada before wrapping up on Oct. 28 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, Calif.
