Jake Owen’s New Ballad ‘In It’ Represents His True Country Voice [Listen]
Jake Owen has debuted a heartfelt ballad from his new album, Greetings From... Jake."In It" provides a showcase for the singer's lower register.
The song premiered via Billboard on Thursday (March 28) to rave reviews from fans. “In It” was written by songwriters Jimmy Robbins, Josh Thompson and Laura Veltz. Owen reveals that the song was a late addition to his album after it was emailed to him. "It’s hard to pick favorites, but this song really means a lot to me," Owen tells Billboard.
"In It" begins with an acoustic guitar, and when Owen's voice comes in, it's filled with passion and a genuine country twang. The song tells a story of revisiting old memories, particularly with an old fling and how he hopes she still thinks of him.
“This record for me is about finding my true voice," Owen says. "Growing up, I always had a low voice, and I found throughout a lot of years I tend to sing songs that work but I always sang them in a higher register. When I finished this I sent it [in] and I said, ‘Here’s the new hit and it’s by the artist Barry Tone.’”
Greetings From...Jake features 14 new tracks, including Owen’s Top 10 single “Down to the Honkytonk," which is nominated for Single of the Year in the upcoming 2019 ACM Awards, and the platinum-certified No. 1 “I Was Jack (You Were Diane).”
Greetings….From Jake was produced by Owen's longtime collaborator Joey Moi, who was also produced “Barefoot Blue Jean Night,” “Alone With You” and “Beachin.” The album debuted on March 29 and represents Owen's first major record release since signing with his new record label, Big Loud.
