Joe Nichols Covering ‘Baby Got Back’ on Next Studio Album
Joe Nichols says that in addition to a number of radio-friendly singles and pure country cuts, he'll do his best Sir Mix-a-lot on his next studio album. The "Freaks Like Me" singer says he has turned "Baby Got Back" into a country shuffle and plans to include it on his 2016 release.
Nichols talked to Taste of Country's Billy Dukes about the decision, which is almost too much to believe. “I do have a dry sense of humor but it’s really true. We’re gonna do a country version of it," he says, assuring Dukes and fans in the video above.
Aside from that, the followup to Crickets will include more of what his fans have enjoyed in recent years. Nichols has found a nice niche in the format and is one of very few traditional artists still able to satisfy a mainstream audience.
“The country stuff that we have on the album is very country, it’s very good stuff lyrically, musically," he explains, "And I think the radio singles are made for radio.”
Additionally, Nichols talked about his favorite new artist in Nashville. Chris Stapleton is now the artist on everyone's lips after winning three CMA Awards in November.
"That was my favorite thing of the whole nominations list," Nichols said prior to the awards show, talking of Stapleton's three nominations (and eventually wins) for Male Vocalist, New Artist of the Year and Album of the Year. "Chris Stapleton is the best singer in my opinion in town, and for him to get nominated for Male Vocalist is justice."
The Best Album of 2015? It's Obvious, Isn't It?
