A candlelight prayer vigil for Joey + Rory singer Joey Feek drew hundreds in her hometown of Alexandria, Ind. on Thursday night (Nov. 5).

Feek has been battling stage 4 cancer, for which she recently underwent surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. Her husband and duo partner, Rory Feek, revealed two weeks ago that her doctors have told the couple there is nothing more they can do. They made the decision to end her treatments, and they have been visiting Joey's family in Indiana.

Rory reached out via his blog, This Life I Live, to ask fans and friend all over the world to participate in a prayer vigil on Thursday at 8PM CST. They asked everyone to pray Joey’s prayer, which is simply, “Pray for a miracle … And even more so, for peace with His decision.”

The request drew a massive response online, with fans sharing the news all over social media, but it hit closer to home for Feek on Thursday night, when supporters in Alexandria lined the streets, not only joining together in prayer, but also sharing stories of a woman they say never changed after her big-time dreams took her to Nashville and a career in music.

“She’d sit around the campfire and she’d sing songs for us… and just a precious girl, just wonderful,” recalls June Miller, who knew Joey as her children’s babysitter (quote via WKRN). “Joey, we love you, we think about you. We pray for you every night, and God does work miracles.”

Local restaurant owner Terry Clegg has posted a message of support on his marquee.

“My wife went to school with Joey and everyone in town really knows everybody, and we’re a close knit community and we’re all coming together for the family,” he says.

In a heartbreaking update, Rory has shared that Joey recently said goodbye to their daughters.

“She told them how much she loved them, and how proud she is of them. And how proud she is to be their mother,” he writes. “And then she talked with them about the one thing that she didn’t think she would ever have to talk with them about: Leaving them. And then she told them of the day when they’ll be together again in Heaven."

"Joey will always be with us. She’ll be in our little [1-year-old daughter] Indiana’s smile … and in our hearts forever.”
