Joey + Rory Stand Strong as Chemo Begins: ‘Laughter Is the Best Medicine’
It's no secret that Joey and Rory Feek have been going through a tough time, but they're not letting it get them down. Joey began intensive chemotherapy on Tuesday (Aug. 25), and just before she was scheduled to begin treatment, they posted a video to Facebook showing her enjoying a fun breakfast with their infant daughter, Indy.
"I think Indy knows that laughter is her mama's best medicine!" Rory writes as Indy makes adorably cute faces at the table, cracking her mother up repeatedly.
Joey's health struggles began with surgery to treat cervical cancer last year. She underwent a second round of very extensive surgery in July after doctors discovered her cancer had returned and spread, but she is currently stable and doing well.
The singer/mother recently returned to the stage at a concert performance, and the couple even worked on recording an album of gospel hymns while she was at home between hospital stays recently. Joey is slated to undergo eight weeks of very difficult chemo at the Cancer Treatment Center of America in the small town of Newnan, Ga., just outside of Atlanta, and her family are joining her for the duration.
"We have been looking so forward to this trip, not because it’s going to be easy … but because it’s the next important step in Joey’s treatment to get her body rid of all the cancer that might still be lingering in her body after the surgery," Rory writes in his blog, This Life I Live. "We’re going to be here in Georgia for awhile, so we loaded what seemed like half the house into our Suburban and headed south."
He and little Indy have been exploring the hotel and the town while waiting on Joey to finish with her various appointments.
"We’re kinda easy to spot," he writes. "I’ll be the guy in bib overalls with the cute baby on my shoulders."
