1975 was John Denver's year in country music, although many traditionalists weren't happy about it. 'Thank God I'm a Country Boy' was one of two he released that hit No. 1 on the country and Billboard Hot 100 charts. Later that year, Denver was named the CMA Awards' Entertainer of the Year, after presenter Charlie Rich opened the envelope, set fire to it and walked off stage.

Song No. 65 on the Top 100 Country Songs list is frequently used in movies or parodied on television shows. Numerous sports teams make use of the danceable hit to pump up their audience, too. It's lived on in pop culture, as well as any country ever recorded.
