Kacey Musgraves Takes Us to Japan for Haunting Performance of ‘Slow Burn’ [Watch]
Kacey Musgraves' first trip to Japan was a pretty miraculous experience for the star, and she's offering fans another look into her time in Tokyo with a stripped down version of "Slow Burn."
Dressed in a furry pink coat and with faux cherry blossom trees all around, Musgraves turns the YouTube Space in Tokyo into a whimsical walk through a Japanese garden and provides a touch of serenity with the performance above, using just her voice and acoustic guitar. "Slow Burn" opens her 2018 album Golden Hour, and sets the tone for the metamorphosis she chronicles throughout the project.
Musgraves uses the song as an autobiographical piece, sharing details of when her grandmother cried when she pierced her nose and how she's simply an old soul waiting her turn in life. "I'm all right with a slow burn / Taking my time let the world turn / I'm gonna do it my way / It'll be all right / If we burn it down and it takes all night / It's a slow burn," she sings melodically, capturing the reflective spirit of the song.

Musgraves ventured to Asia for a CD signing in Tokyo in May of 2018. While there, she also performed "Love is a Wild Thing" and she chronicled several aspects of the trip on Instagram, including a stop at Yoyogi Park, a colorful kimono fitting and dancing to her song "High Horse" with staff members at the vibrant Kawaii Monster Cafe.
"Japan has been at the top of my bucket list for as long as I can remember. It’s more than exceeding my expectations. Much respect," she writes in a post.
The singer traveled back to Japan in July for a performance at Fuji Rock Festival. Following a stint on the road opening for Harry Styles on his 2018 Live on Tour, Musgraves is prepping for her own headlining trek, the Oh, What a World Tour, which hits Europe and North America throughout late 2018 and early 2019.
