There was an interesting twist during Monday's Season 14 premiere of The Voice, when two familiar faces from the fourth hour of the Today show showed up.

As part of a new Today segment called Raising the Stakes, Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb stepped out of their comfort zones and endure the nerve-wracking experience of auditioning for the national singing show as duo the Wine-Os, bringing friends Kris Jenner and Curtis Jones for support.

Wearing matching outfits, the talk show hosts took the stage for a less-than-stellar rendition of James Taylor and Carole King's beloved "You've Got a Friend," but still got a four-chair turn out of curiosity.

The Voice Moments We'll Never Forget

All four of the judges were surprised — and somewhat relieved — to see Gifford and Hotkb, with new judge Kelly Clarkson flipping out when she realized who had been singing. Blake Shelton and Adam Levine both cracked up at the sight of the familiar faces.

"When she turned and I saw that, I had to see what was going on," Shelton says of Clarkson's dramatic reaction. Clearly he thought one singer was better than the other, telling Kotb that her co-host "saved your ass on that one, 100 percent."

The Wine-Os ultimately chose Clarkson as their coach, since she was the first person to turn for them. No word on how far the vibrant hosts will take the schtick, but their appearance did make for fun moment during the premiere.

Another contestant who generated buzz during the premiere is Justin Kilgore, a country singer from Texas who shared his story of living as a gay man in the rural south. After wowing the crowd with his performance of "Tomorrow" by Chris Young, he became a part of Team Kelly Clarkson.
