Keith Whitley's tender vocals were the perfect pairing with this Paul Overstreet co-written lyric. His version of 'When You Say Nothing at All' is widely considered one of the greatest love songs of all time. Two other artists also made hits out of song No. 37 on the Top 100 Country Songs list, including Alison Krauss in 1994.

Krauss' version was on a tribute album to the late Whitley, who died less than a year after this song was released as a single. It was the first of six No. 1 country songs for a voice that was taken much too soon. His legacy will always live on with this hit.
