Krystal Keith’s ‘Boulder’ EP Coming This Summer
Krystal Keith is set to release new music. The daughter of Toby Keith will share her five-song EP, Boulder, in summer of 2018.
The EP features the title track and Keith's duet with Lance Carpenter on "Anyone Else," in addition to titles like "I Got You," the clever "Beach Face" and "Then It Started Raining." It follows Keith's debut album Whiskey & Lace, which premiered in 2013 and includes the charting single "Daddy Dance With Me."
"On the first album I really wanted to show I wouldn't be boxed into one sound," Keith says of the new project in a press release. "Boulder is more reflective of where I want to go right now."
Carpenter, who co-penned Kelsea Ballerini's breakthrough hit "Love Me Like You Mean It," actually come across "Anyone Else" years ago, but after hearing Keith's voice, he knew it would make for a perfect duet between the two of them.
"When it was done, she played it for her people and they started jumping up and down," Carpenter describes on his official website. "Then Toby heard it, flipped out and played it for the Show Dog staff. He was like, 'This song needs to be on the radio and we're going to put it there.'"
Boulder is produced by Bobby Pinson, who's co-written several songs with Keith's father, in addition to getting cuts by Sugarland, Brooks & Dunn and Brantley Gilbert.
It seems as if the title track is particularly special for the singer, who says she connected with its message the first time she heard it. "As a songwriter, I'm drawn to anything that's lyrically strong but also a really cool groove," she says of "Boulder," penned by Emily Weisband, Benjy Davis and Mike Walker. "I wanted to showcase my range and ability more on this project. Now that people know who I am as an artist, I wanted to open up with a big, rangy ballad."
The EP marks Keith's first release since the birth of her daughter in 2015, and follows her recovery from a serious car accident she and her family were involved in after a drunk driver crashed into their vehicle over July 4th weekend in 2017.
Boulder drops on July 13.
