Lauren Alaina Surprises Boy With Brain Tumor at His Homecoming Dance
Laura Alaina has had a great year, but in light of her country music success, it's pretty obvious that the 17-year-old star hasn't lost sight of what's important. Although the country songstress is in the middle of her Eighteen Inches Tour, she cleared her calendar recently to surprise Jordan Trunfio -- a West Springfield High School student in Springfield, Va. who is suffering from a brain tumor -- at his Homecoming dance.
According to Washington, D.C.-based radio station WMZQ, Trunfio was diagnosed with a Stage 3 Astrocytoma brain tumor in January. He has been undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments to fight against the cancer since, but sadly, the tumor doesn't seem to be shrinking.
Alaina heard Trunfio's story when Meredith Oare, a member of Jordan's T-shirt fundraising team, met the country singer back stage after her Ashburn, Va. show. When Oare told the 'Georgia Peaches' hitmaker about her friend's brain tumor and all that he's going through, the songbird decided to just show up at the dance to brighten his evening. You can see photos of them dancing here.
But the sweet story doesn't end there: Jordan was actually crowned Homecoming King that night, and he was able to show off his crown to the rising country music star! Since Alaina was sad to miss her own homecoming dance a few weeks before, she more than made up for it by crashing the dance at West Springfield High School and giving Jordan and his friends an unforgettable night.
As it turns out, this kind-hearted deed fits in with Alaina's current tour. The 'Idol' singer is using her 18-city stint to benefit local charities and the Special Olympics. At each tour stop, Alaina will be selling tour T-shirts and donating a portion of those sales to the less fortunate.
