Here Are the Lyrics to Lil Nas X’s Viral Hit ‘Old Town Road’
It's time to stop quibbling about whether or not Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" is country and embrace the viral hit, whatever genre you'd like to classify it as. The song's been removed from Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart, debuted on Billboard's Country Airplay chart, earned a Billy Ray Cyrus remix and can count, among others, Keith Urban as a fan.
The late-teens, Atlanta-based rapper tells Genius that "Old Town Road" is a metaphor for fighting to find success on a road full of obstacles. Okay, so the lyrics are a bit suspect beyond that can't-get-it-out-of-your-head chorus — but, dang, that hook is contagious as all get-out!
On the Cyrus remix version of the song, the country singer adds in a third chorus about "living like a rock star" and, from what we can gather, conquering that road to success but still, maybe just a little, wishing to do it all over again. Plus, he name-drops Fendi, Maserati and Marlboro, effectively doubling the song's brand call-outs.
Yes, the whole thing is a little goofy — but this is a song that gained fame because of a video app, so maybe it's just best to let it happen.

Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" Lyrics (with Billy Ray Cyrus' Additional Remix Verse):
Chorus:
Yeah, I'm gonna take my horse to the old town road / I'm gonna ride 'til I can't no more / I'm gonna take my horse to the old town road / I'm gonna ride 'til I can't no more
Bridge:
Can't nobody tell me nothin' / You can't tell me nothin' / Can't nobody tell me nothin' / You can't tell me nothin'
Ridin' on a tractor / Lean all in my bladder / Cheated on my baby / You can go and ask her / My life is a movie / Bull ridin' and boobies / Cowboy hat from Gucci / Wrangler on my booty
Repeat Bridge
Repeat Chorus
Hat down, cross town, living like a rock star / Spend a lot of money on my brand-new guitar / Baby’s got a habit, diamond rings and Fendi sports bras / Riding down Rodeo in my Maserati sports car / Got no stress, I’ve been through all that / I’m like the Marlboro man so I kick on back / Wish I could roll on back to that old town road / I wanna ride until I can’t no more
Repeat Chorus
