Maddie & Tae Sign With UMG Nashville
Maddie & Tae have officially signed with UMG Nashville, the duo have confirmed.
The "Girl in a Country Song" singers hit the stage at the 2017 Taste of Country Music Festival on Friday (June 9), and they confirmed the news -- which has been rumored in Nashville for weeks -- prior to their set, adding that they are not yet sure which UMG imprint will carry their new music.
The duo were the flagship act in the re-launching of Dot Records in 2014, and they scored two hits straight out of the gate with "Girl in a Country Song" and "Fly" from their debut album, Start Here. Two subsequent singles, "Shut Up and Fish" and "Sierra," have not fared as well.
Big Machine Label Group shuttered the Dot Records imprint in March of 2017 amidst a restructuring that included dropping a number of acts, as well as staff shakeups. The Dot imprint was the last of BMLG's joint ventures with Universal, which had the option to bring Dot artists over to a different UMG imprint.
Maddie & Tae tell Taste of County that the album they were working on for Dot will transfer to UMG as part of their new deal, and though they are not sure when the details of the deal will be announced, they are set to play a UMG event during CMA Music Festival on Saturday (June 10).
