Maren Morris Comes Out as Bisexual

Maren Morris recognized Pride Month by revealing she's bisexual. Her social media post includes six photos and a caption that celebrates the LGBTQ+ community.

• Maren Morris finalized her divorce from singer / songwriter Ryan Hurd in January.
• The couple were married for five years and have one child together, a son named Hayes (2020).
• The 34-year-old's June 9 declaration is new but she's long been an active supporter of LGBTQ+ rights.

The photo collage looks to have come from a June 8 concert in Phoenix, Ariz. Included are two posed photographs and four that find her on stage. She's waving a rainbow flag in a pair of the pics.

"Happy to be the B in LGBTQ+," she writes. "Happy Pride."

The announcement comes during a busy summer touring season for Morris, best known for country songs like "My Church" and her pop cross-over smash "The Middle." Since announcing that she was stepping back from country music, she's released several songs that are consistent with her catalog, but it's not clear what her next album will sound like.

Morris' September 2023 interview in the Los Angeles Times was headlined with "Maren Morris is getting the hell out of country music," but her actual quotes weren't quite that definitive. In the months that have followed she's tried to explain or walk back those comments, telling Jimmy Fallon:

"I don't think (country music) is something you can really leave because it's a music that's in me and that's what I grew up doing. It's the music I write, even if I've been sort of genre-fluid my whole career."

News of her musical shift (moving from Sony's Nashville label to it's New York label) came one month before she announced that she and Hurd were getting divorced. Neither has ever discussed what led to their separation.
