Maren Morris' new single, "Girl," shares a powerful message about loving yourself. "What you feel is natural," she sings of that temptation to compare ourselves to everyone around us — but, she adds, "I don't wanna wear your crown / There's enough to go around."

Morris co-wrote "Girl" alongside Sarah Aarons and Greg Kurstin. Kurstin produced the new track, inspired by a letter Morris was writing to a friend.

"It felt like such a timely song for now," Morris tells ABC. "[In the letter, I was asking], 'Why are we competing against one another? Is it ourselves? Is it this industry? Is it the world?'"

Then, she realized: "I don't think I am writing this to her," Morris recalls. "I am writing this to myself."

"Girl" is the first single from Morris' sophomore album. The project is complete, she's shared on social media, but it does not yet have a release date.

Maren Morris' "Girl" Lyrics:

Man, this shit's unflattering / All up in my head again / I don’t feel myself right now / Maybe I should just lay down / If vanity’s my vitamin / But I don’t feel the difference / I don’t like myself right now / Gotta find a way out / What you feel is natural / But I don’t wanna feel this anymore / Pick yourself up off the kitchen floor / Whatchu waitin' for?

Chorus:

Girl, won’t you stop your crying? / I know that you’re trying / Everything’s gonna be okay, baby / Girl, don’t you hang your head low / Don’t you lose your halo / Everyone’s gonna be okay, baby / Girl

Drawing your comparisons / Trying to find who’s lesser than / I don’t wanna wear your crown / There’s enough to go around / What you feel is natural / You don’t gotta put up with this anymore / Pick yourself up off the kitchen floor / Tell me what you're waiting for

Repeat Chorus

Girl, don’t hang your head low / Don’t lose your halo, don’t lose your halo / Girl, don’t hang your head low / Don’t lose your halo

Repeat Chorus x2

Everyone's gonna be okay, baby
