Maren Morris Puts Her Spin on ’90s Classic ‘Strawberry Wine’
When Maren Morris arrived for the Jan. 14 opening of Dierks Bentley’s new Nashville honky tonk, Whiskey Row, she was tasked with choosing a classic '90s country hit to perform in keeping with the party's theme.
Rising to the occasion, the 27-year-old Morris chose Deana Carter’s 1997 signature hit “Strawberry Wine," which she delivered with aplomb and to much appreciation from the audience. Dressed in a killer midi-length sequin skirt, with a slit up to there, she definitely modernized the classic visually as well as musically.
Following the performance, she posted a shot on Instagram with Bentley, as well as her fiance, Ryan Hurd—and revealed that she hadn't sang that particular tune for quite a while. Since she was 10 years old, to be exact!
Other performers at the opening included Jon Pardi, the Brothers Osborne, Cole Swindell, and Morris's fiance Hurd himself, all of whom put their own spin on '90s country classics ranging from Tim McGraw to Alan Jackson numbers.
Morris recently hit a huge career milestone: Her single "I Could Use a Love Song" made its way to the top of the Billboard Country Airplay chart going into a new week, marking her first-ever No. 1 song.
"I Could Use a Love" song is the third single off Morris' chart-topping Hero album and follows the Top 5 single "My Church" and "80s Mercedes" which peaked inside the Top 15. "I Could Use a Love Song" is also nominated for a 2018 Grammy Award for Best Country Solo Performance, with Morris scoring a win in the same category in 2017 for "My Church."
