Maren Morris’ Wedding Dress (Inspired by Her Mom) Is Stylish and Nostalgic
Maren Morris walked down the aisle on Saturday (March 24) wearing a wedding dress as sentimental as it is unique. The singer married Ryan Hurd in a stylish, short dress that was inspired by her mom.
Morris, 27, called on Nashville designer Cavanagh Baker to create a piece reminiscent of her mom's vintage wedding dress that she wore to her 1989 wedding. White lace and floral embroidery down the side only accentuated a diamond-encrusted strap at the top and at the waist of Morris' 2018 adaptation. But perhaps the most eye-catching aspect is the long tule train that adds even more flair.
Baker pulled in product from different countries to make the lavish attire, featuring extravagant lace from Spain, with jewels handmade in India. Morris' wedding dress took more than a month to design and make, but she knew from the moment she said "yes" what she wanted it to look like. She told People in October, speaking of her mother:
"She was a badass and had this short wedding dress, so I sent it to this designer that I love. I was like, ‘If we can do a modern version of my mom’s wedding dress — just dreaming something up really cool, but still throwback with her vibe, I would love to make that happen.’
And the elegant train was created with 20 layers of tulle and features intricate lace patchwork all down the piece. Morris was able to take off the train after the ceremony, an optimal option when partying with guests.
After she said "I do," the "My Church" singer shared a photo of herself and Hurd at the altar, sharing a loving kiss with the caption: "My turn home," which quotes a line from a song the couple wrote together that was later cut by Tim McGraw. They not only married in style, but left the ceremony just the same, driving off in a 1959 Jaguar, writing "R+M <3" on the foggy window.
In the days leading up to the wedding, Hurd shared the love song he wrote for his now-wife called "Diamonds or Twine," pledging his devotion to her and their life together.
